Art in capitalism is not only an esthetic expression, but also a commodity, several times reducing the masterpiece to a product. However, art also can contribute, dialectically, in the sensibility field, to an emancipatory development, when it preserves its intrinsic characteristic of sign of the spiritual development typical of the modern civilization. Based on the criticism about the appropriation of art for commercial purposes, this article aims an artistic education at school that broadens students’ esthetic references. Moreover, it leads to developing their greatest abilities to human emancipation, therefore, in the scope of the theoretical framework of historical and dialectical materialism. This text is part of the results of a master's research.
