Abstract

RAUGUST, Mayara B.. UNDERSTANDING THE DEAF CULTURE THROUGH THE IMAGE: THE DEAFED ART IN QUESTION. Revista Teias [online]. 2018, vol.19, n.53, pp.20-35.  Epub Feb 19, 2020. ISSN 1982-0305.  https://doi.org/10.12957/teias.2018.34148.

The article intends to problematize different forms of constituting the deaf culture beyond the institutionalized places, through one of the artifacts that compose it: deaf art. This, understood as pedagogical device producing new ways of conceiving the deaf culture. For that, the research had a face-to-face interview of three deaf artists from different Brazilian regions, in order to investigate the ways of producing the deaf culture through their art. The theoretical reference of the research is composed by the concept of device, (FOUCAULT, 1979), of culture (HALL, 1997); and deaf culture (Gomes, 2011). It is concluded that the deaf culture was and is signified by the deaf artists of different forms, because a house understands and expresses it of particular forms.

Keywords : Deaf Culture; Deaf Art; Device.
