Abstract

NUNES, Georgina Helena Lima. 100 YEARS OF PAULO FREIRE, READINGS OF OUR STORIES: a autobiographic essay on race relations. Revista Teias [online]. 2023, vol.24, n.75, pp.336-348.  Epub Dec 26, 2023. ISSN 1982-0305.  https://doi.org/10.12957/teias.2023.78863.

This article stems from a reflection provoked by the commemorative events of the hundred years of birth of the educator Paulo Freire. The proposed theme, when referring to youth and adult education, provided a personal re-memory exercise in relation to this teaching modality, building up, then, an act of systematization of the theoretical-conceptual categories linked to an autobiography. Such an exercise intersects, supported by the proper bibliographic review (Fanon 2008, 2015; Mbembe, 2008, 2016; Quijano, 2010), the dimensions of race/class and gender, whose social reading, under contemporary eyes, is urgent. It is conclusively revealed how the Freirean legacy (Freire, 1983, 2000, 2006a, 2006b, 2007), focused on inconclusion, allows possibilities for readings and rereadings of pedagogies that denounce oppression and tend to hope for their days with strategies that Freire allows us to conceive as unprecedented and viable.

Keywords : freirean legacy; ethnic-racial relations; youth and adult education; quilombos; racism.
