Childhood has been the subject of study in Brazil, especially in the last decades, which has led to advances in scientific knowledge and the guarantee of children's rights. In the midst of these studies, play and education in school institutions have aroused debates and reflections on the policies that regulate the schooling of children. This article, which is the result of a master's research, is concerned with signaling the manifestations of play and play in the school routine of the 2nd period of Early Childhood Education and the 1st year of Primary Education, with a central role in childhood and children. It seeks to understand how play, play and childhood are conceived by teachers and children in an Application College. We list theoretical elements that are articulated with the protagonism of children, in dialogue with public policies for childhood and pedagogical practices.
