Abstract

This paper highlights the questions and emphasis in texts on educational policies published by Revista Brasileira de Estudos Pedagógicos (Rbep) in the last two decades. The content analysis indicates the predominance of five themes: theoretical considerations on educational policies, with particular emphasis on the debate on quality and the importance of the historical context; the presentation of prospective views, either as a proposition or as the indication of methodological instruments; the discussion of the relation between the State and education based on recent academic production; the analysis and interpretation of statistics on education with predominance in showing mistakes in the interpretation of implemented particular policies, and the critical analysis of specific policies under different perspectives. Generally speaking, these texts, which are characterized by an emphasis on the debate within specific areas of the authors’ knowledge, are focused on the importance of formal education in building the democracy in Brazil.
