This paper addresses the relation between aesthetic experience and human development from John Dewey’s approach and is aimed at showing the contributions of the aesthetic experience to human development from a monistic perspective by that author. In order to meet such aim, Dewey’s Art as experience was taken as the main reference, and Democracy and education; Experience and education, and Life and education were studied as complementary references. The paper initially addresses the relation between the aesthetic experience and the role of imagination and, next, questions the contribution of the aesthetic experience to education conceived as development from a monistic perspective.
