Resumen

ASCOLANI, Adrián. Nationalists and libertarians: tensions around the national symbols and commemorations in primary education (Argentina, 1910-1930). Rev. Bras. Hist. Educ [online]. 2020, vol.20, e129.  Epub 01-Ago-2020. ISSN 2238-0094.  https://doi.org/10.4025/rbhe.v20.2020.e129.

In the period 1910-1930, nationalist education was essential in the curriculum of primary schools in Argentina. The National Education Council, a body dependent on the federal government, established the regulations to adapt immigrants to the national culture and to counteract the influence of collectivist and internationalist theories on new generations. The ‘patriotic history’, with its symbols, ceremonies and daily school practices was a fundamental vehicle, giving a central role to the episodes of political independence, achieved in 1816. This article analyzes the continuities and changes of school patriotism, in its relation with the pedagogical renewal and with the sustained opposition from the anarchist press, against militarism and the indoctrination of childhood.

Palabras clave : nationalist education; school patriotism; militarism; patriotic commemorations.
