The valuation of the image, the influence of media and mass media has become central elements in discussions and reflections in different areas of the social sphere. Taking as reference the concept of Educommunication, Participatory Video and the principles defended by Paulo Freire for a liberating education, the objective of this study was to describe the process of empowerment and emancipation of subjects from the rural areas through the production of educational videos related to the social context of the participants. The study was conducted with 22 students of the Bachelors Degree in Rural Education and the development of the activities took place both at the University and in the communities of the participants. All data were constructed through observation, questionnaires and interviews. Thirteen videos were produced with the available resources (mobile phones, computers and cameras), from the active participation of all students. The subjects brought in their productions the contextualization and discussion of issues related to their specific social context but that affect life in a general way in the rural areas, such as the use of pesticides and their impact, the dispute between conventional farming and organic farming, the principles agroecology and environmental. The emancipation together with new discoveries through the use of technology and also the idea of challenges to be overcome and technology as a right of all, were understandings demonstrated by them in the reflections on the experienced process.
