DADICO, Luciana. Reading books as experience: reflections from the Walter Benjamin's works. LTP [online]. 2015, vol.33, n.65, pp.35-51. ISSN 2317-0972. https://doi.org/10.2014/LTP-v33n65dez0035.
This article aims to discuss reading books according to Walter Benjamin's concept of experience. The main issue discussed in this paper is whether literary reading can be qualified as "reading experience", or whether reading books is contradictory with experience. Although this concept is not presented in only one way in Benjamin's writings, many of its senses dialogue with relevant problems of criticism and literature, contributing to the present reflection. The lament over the crisis of experience is related to the decline of narratives, the rise of novels and the increase in book sales. We have highlighted the important connection between experience and literary reading, proposing a reflection on the effectiveness of electing titles that are more or less able of fostering a reading experience.
