This manuscript analyzes the perception of university library staff about the acceptance of self-service technology and the social role of work in university libraries. Through a qualitative methodology, with application of questionnaires, the perceptions of public servants are discussed about of the theoretical framework. Data analysis revealed a high perception about the self-service utilities due to the autonomy, practicality and privacy promoted by the technology, the motivational factors for the use of this technology, and its main users. In addition, social perceptions related to work are discussed due to the implications of self-service technologies in the context of neoliberalism and the substitution and allocation of the workforce.
