Abstract

MELIA, Bartomeu. The interculturalism pitfalls. Sér.-Estud. [online]. 2014, n.37, pp.47-54. ISSN 2318-1982.  https://doi.org/DOI10.20435/2318-1982-2014-v.37(04).

This article presents a reflection on the concept of multiculturalism and its pitfalls. Starting an exercise of bilingualism in which the skin of each one is the first data/sign that makes differences between speakers, we approach the conditions of a possible dialogue between different people. Culture only seen and perceived through the skin we inhabit and this culture is a system of communication through kinship, the exchange of goods and reciprocity of messages and symbols. Interculturalism entails full recognition of the difference in someone else and there is not multiculturalism when the skin of the other person, especially what he says with his language precisely call is denied, neglected and even maltreat. But there is not interculturalism when each one do not want recognize and love their own skin, covers and disguises.
