Abstract

VIEIRA, Carlos Magno Naglis. Indigenous children in city schools: conflicts and tensions in school relations. Sér.-Estud. [online]. 2016, vol.21, n.42, pp.167-184. ISSN 2318-1982.  https://doi.org/10.20435/2318-1982-2016-v.21-n.42(10).

This paper which results from a doctoral research intends to describe the conflicts and the tensions between the indigenous children and other actors who walk round in the space of a municipal school in Campo Grande in the State of Mato Grosso do Sul. Under a qualitative methodology which determines a relationship between the identity, difference and culture(s), and by having, the historical processes which make senses and the meanings that further emphasize the relations of power which form the different cultures into a hierarchy, as interpretation axes, the text is supported by theoretical reflections which are within the field of the Children's Anthropology studies, post- colonial theories and of the authors of the Modernity/Coloniality's group. As the studies with indigenous children in urban context, focus of this article, still arouse researchers' little interest on the subject, despite a slight growth has been verified in the last ten years, the study intends to create visibility for future discussions involving the subject which is still seen as marginalized, subordinated and silenced in the Academy scope.

Keywords : Indigenous children in the urban context; school environment; conflicts and tensions.
