This article proposes a reflection on the democratic school management and challenges of the interpretation and use of legislation in public schools from Caiçara town, in Rio Grande do Sul, under the guidance, maintenance, and management of the Brazilian Educational City Office. This research was carried out due to the need of expanding the production regarding the theme, mainly in Brazilian cities far from the capitals, given the lack of analyses about it. To do so, this investigation collected narratives from school managers, based on the theoretical and methodological approach of the case study, using questionnaires that applied semi-structured questions. By focusing this research on the democratic school management law, the process, for nstance, enabled us to establish dialogical relationships with working school managers, as well as deepen our knowledge of the different challenges and realities, of the lack of effective knowledge on laws and lack of its full use in the city scope.
